President orders take over of coal mines amid strike

President Truman orders Fuel Administrator Harold Tucker to take over and operate Provania anthracite mines. Three day strike involving 72,000 miners has cost the nation an estimated 1 250 000 tons of coal. Federal operation to run three mines immediately to restore work and supply.
