Rainfall in Fannin for First Four Months Below Normal

Through April 1956 the four month rainfall in Fannin reached 13.18 inches, well below the 1952 1953 1954 and 1955 totals. April alone brought 3.59 inches and a monthly high of 88 degrees on April 13 with lows of 37 on April 7 and 20. Heaviest rain was 1.80 inches on Monday morning, with smaller amounts on April 15 3 6 and 22. Totals for January to April are compared against prior years.

Friday Deadline Set For 1956 Cotton Allotments

Dan Barnard manager of the Fannin County ASC announced that Friday is the final deadline to release 1956 cotton acreage allotments. Unreleased allotments by farmers who do not plan to farm will be reallotted to other farms in the county by the ASC committee.

Bonhi Students Elected to National Honor Society

Two Bonham High School seniors Nancy Miller Betty Annip Anne Harper Harriet Hassel and Tonmy Taylor were elected by teachers for the National Honor Society for scholarship loyalty leadership and character. Seven juniors were also elected. An assembly on May 24 will initiate 42 students. In a separate item the Army approved a $25000 harbor explosion settlement for Mrs J Elizabeth H Dalehite and her son Henry Dalehite Jr of Galveston.

Rites for Veteran Kentucky Solon Set for Wednesday

Alben W. Barkley former vice president and Kentucky senator died at 78 from a heart attack during a Washington event. Funeral services are set in Washington at Foundry Methodist Church with burial planned in Paducah. Kentucky Gov Chandler declared 30 day mourning.
