Moore previously headed the Temple chamber for many years before resigning.
Senator Leon Keyserling told the joint Economic Committee that federal controls on prices and wages are unnecessary to fight inflation. He argued there is no immediate inflation threat and urged long range policies to raise production and reduce unemployment, opposing a 2 to 4 percent inflation path as a necessary tradeoff for growth.
An ammonia device exploded at the Wilson & Co meat packing plant in Oklahoma City trapping workers and releasing gas. Authorities reported one body found in the wreckage and 22 people accounted for with ten injured, including at least two in critical condition. Firefighters used gas masks and pulmotors as ambulances rushed seven floors of the sprawling building.
Washington President Eisenhower signed into law a bill extending the peacetime draft for four years beyond June 30. The act maintains selective service authority to induct men aged 21 to 26 and continues provisions to draft dentists and doctors. It also extends allowances for enlisted men with dependents.
French military headquarters say allied forces killed, captured, or wounded close to 400 rebels in the past week near Algiers Algeria. Monday night French losses were reported at 28 dead and several wounded.

A two year old boy died in a house fire in San Antonio as a mother and a girl fled the flames. An Air Force K-66 jet crashed five miles north of Greenville. Pilot Lt Raymond McRcy parachuted to safety and is stationed at Perrin Air Force Base. The incident left no injuries. authorities investigated the wreckage and conditions.

House Republican Lew Ier Charley A halleck said the Western powers policy of firmness in Berlin will prevent war. After a White House meeting with President Eisenhower and Prime Minister Macmillan, Halleck cited conversations at the White House and with Nixon as basis for his hope. Senate leader Everett M. Dirksen also attended and expressed cautious optimism that Western troops will not be forced to leave Berlin amid the crisis.
In San Francisco UPI report, teen employee Donald Cox was told by Santo Celatino to keep the walk in refrigerator door closed. When the door was left open Sunday Celatino was found inside with the padlock keys and had to be rescued after firemen freed him.
Overnight raids by unidentified burglars damaged Windom and Dodd City schools. Cash totaling 189 dollars were taken from Windom including 149 dollars from a filing cabinet, proceeds from a senior play and lunch money. In Dodd City the burglars failed to open a safe. desks and filing cabinets were ransacked and multiple windows broken. Police, sheriff and Texas Ranger investigated with no arrests at report time.
