The ETSC drama department presents Ends ee ota by Cantrell Little Mary Sunshine tonight and Tuesday under Dr Curtis L Pope. A 35th annual Tri State Singing convention will be held in Shreveport April 3 4 with about 5000 singers and fans expected, starting 7 p.m. and ending at 3 30 p.m.
In a neighborhood blue jays disrupted the dawn chorus joining mocking birds and cardinals as Deputy Sheriff Leon Shastid reported a smoky fire at McKelva Furniture and a three siren alert. March 31 marks the deadline to register all motor vehicles for 1965 with the tax office open until midnight Saturday to handle late filers. Henry Joe Fletcher notes many vehicles still unregistered possibly causing lines in the final days.
Senator Ralph Hall spent a lively Saturday night at the Windom PTA ham chicken supper. He chatted with friends after a hearty plate, as Windom ladies were praised for their cooking and the event drew a hearty crowd.
The Mariner 4 spacecraft marks the halfway point of its 228 day mission to Mars. Launched November 28, 1964, it will pass within 5,500 miles of Mars on July 14 to attempt television photo transmissions. By 3 am EST it had covered 183.7 million miles of a 325 million mile voyage.
Police investigated three crashes over the weekend totaling about $960 in damage. Five cars were involved. Officers identified Raymond Edwin Morrison and Everett Otis Denny of Penham as drivers in a collision at 8th and Beech. Lou Prejean of 1015 North Main Street drove a car that struck a TP and L pole guy wire at 12th and Chestnut. Norman Clifford Huey and Donald Roy Lee were named as drivers in the Willow and West 6th Street collision.
In downtown Cleburne a noon fire destroyed five businesses including a grocery, a Goodwill shop, a barber, a cafe and a vacant building. Damage was estimated at 108000 to 200000 dollars. Firefighters from Burleson Alvarado Keene and Godley aided local crews. the blaze likely started in the grocery store.
Houk elected to New York Yankees board replacing Del Webb who recently sold his interests. Joining the board are president Dan Topping and William S. Paley with Dr. Frank Stanton and Michael Burke of CBS also serving.
In Birmingham a sixth time bomb was found in a Black neighborhood. Mayor Boutwell pledged full pursuit of those responsible as five other devices were disarmed by Army demolition units. A mortician found a bomb behind his funeral home while investigators examined multiple targets including a church and a parsonage connected to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. kin.
Bonham area forecasts show warm spell through Tuesday with a new cool front arriving Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Skies stay cloudy with showers Tuesday and a 5 day outlook predicting 4 to 8 degrees below normal temperatures and light precipitation. A chance of light snow exists midweek in north central Texas.
Fire started in a trash box on the first floor of McKelva Furniture at the northeast square corner. Estimated damage ran to thousands, with one estimate at 25 000 though actual fire damage was small. smoke and water caused most loss. Firemen battled dense smoke, diverting traffic on Center Street. One firefighter suffered minor injuries when a stairway landing gave way. The blaze remained contained to rear three floors with flames confined and no windows or roof breached.
The State Bar of Texas filed a Friend of the Court brief in the Billie Sol Estes case urging the Supreme Court to allow courtroom photography and TV coverage if the presiding judge so desires. Estes contests his Tyler swindling conviction on constitutional grounds alleging live television coverage violated rights. Colorado Atty. Gen. Duke W. Dunbar joined for the Colorado Supreme Court, backing discretionary courtroom coverage by judges.
Police were notified Monday morning of gasoline theft from a truck at the Hi Yield location. A preliminary investigation is underway.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and about 300 civil rights protesters march along Jefferson Davis Highway from Selma to Montgomery under U.S. Army protection. A federal order limits two-lane sections to 300 marchers, with a five day deadline and King planning to fly to Cleveland after Sunday’s march.
Vice President Hubert Humphrey urged U S broadcasters to curb government regulation by using an inner industry voice. He spoke at the National Association of Broadcasters convention as FCC prepared to announce a rule limiting networks’ prime time control to 50 percent, down from about nine percent today.
Paris runoff returns from municipal elections boost Gaston Def ferre the Marseille mayor who backs a presidential bid while Charles de Gaulle’s camp suffers a major setback losing control of the Paris City Council. UNR captured 39 of 90 seats, short of expectations.

About a dozen uniformed officers checked entrants while NAACP official Herbert Hill framed the protests as a national push for equal job opportunities.
U S officials disclosed that South Vietnamese forces used nausea producing gas supplied by the United States against Viet Cong guerrillas. Eight U S Air Force F165 fighters conducted armed reconnaissance over North Vietnam. one plane was shot down but the pilot was rescued. The gas, described as non lethal and similar to riot control tear gas, was issued to South Vietnam for use by its troops in tactical situations among civilians.
Dallas Mayor Erik Jonsson says the city will seek a time extension from the Civil Aeronautics Board to resume Dallas Fort Worth airport discussions. Congressman Earle Cabell will arrange a Washington meeting to present Dallas position as Fort Worth delays any extension. March 29 remains the deadline. Dallas and Fort Worth each have a rival plan, Love Field for Dallas and Greater Southwestern for Fort Worth.
The House monetary affairs subcommittee said the Kennedy 50 cent piece remains in short supply despite a dawn mint program to boost circulation. It notes the coin is hoarded as a novelty and kept out of circulation rather than a production shortage.
Communist China broke three days of silence to send congratulations to the Kremlin. Radio Peking reported the cable came from Mao Tse-tung Chou En-lai and Liu Shao-chi to Soviet leaders Leonid Brezhnev Alexei Kosygin and An Mikoyan.
