Trenton Bay Wins 1976 Soil Essay Contest

Brad Simmons of Trenton won the Fannin County Soil and Water Conservation District 1976 essay contest themed Conserving Our Soil After 200 Years. His essay advances to the State contest. First through fifth place prizes ranged from 25 to 10 dollars with winners from Trenton and Savoy.

Political Forum in Bonham for First District Candidates

Candidates for Congress from the First District will attend a Monday 7 p.m. forum in the Fountain Room at First National Bank. Sponsored by the Fannin County Democratic Women's Club, the event invites Bonham area residents to meet ten Democratic hopefuls and ask questions during a social period. Delegates to the national convention will also speak briefly for their candidates. Local figures Kate Reed Estes, Jackie Alsebrook, and Jimme Britton will represent Lloyd Bentsen, Jimmy Caner, and George C. Wallace respectively.

Buddy Morgan James Bruce Morgan Dies From Highway Crash Injuries

Buddy Morgan James Bruce Morgan age 22 of Dodd City died in Denison Memorial Hospital from injuries after a two vehicle collision on State Highway 121 south of Bonham at 630 p.m. Thursday.

Cooler Weather Is Forecast for Bonham Area

Forecast calls for mostly fair skies and cooler temperatures in the Bonham area through Sunday as a light front moves in. Sunday expects north winds 10 to 15 mph, with a low in the low 40s and a high in the mid 60s. statewide trends point to continued fair weather. Burial details for Mr. Morgan set for Wise Funeral Chapel on Monday at 10:30 am with services at Dodd City cemetery. He was born July 8 1954 in San Antonio and died from a pickup crash involving a Dodd City high school student Thomas Brewer. He is survived by his mother, father, stepfather, brother Rick, sister Lesia, grandmothers and many aunts and uncles. He was a Dodd City high school graduate and East Texas State University student. His death marked Fannin County’s first traffic fatality of 1976.

Grand Jury Set To Convene In Sixth District Friday

The January term grand jury for Sixth District court will meet Friday morning by order of Judge Henry Braswell. County Attorney John H. Morn says seven or eight cases will be submitted, including theft and burglary. A new indictment is planned against Alfred Ray Bradshaw, who escaped from Fannin county jail last fall and is now held in the Mississippi penitentiary with a hold from Fannin county.
