The Consumer Sew Fair on March 30 at the National Guard Armory in Bonham offers homemakers a front row view of the clothing industry. Sponsored by the Texas Agricultural Extension Service and Fannin County Family Living Committee, the free event runs 10 am to 2:30 pm with programs on buying ready made clothing, sewing machine care, fashion fabrics, patterns, and a Butterick Fashion Review.
The Fannin County Tax Assessor-Collector Robert Dale said the office will be open 8 am to 12 noon on March 20 and March 27 to let residents register motor vehicles. The state office remains open Monday through Friday 8 am to 5 pm. A small 1976 sticker replaces the former metal tag and is affixed to the upper left corner of the plate.
Ford and Carter won decisive Illinois primary victories as Reagan Wallace and Shriver faltered, signaling strong momentum for the Republican duo and narrowing the Democratic field amid Chicago politcal ties. Carter led Wallace by more than 150,000 votes in the Democratic contest while Shriver finished third.
Former CIA Director William Colby testifies at a Washington deposition in a Freedom of Information case and refuses to reveal the U S intelligence budget. He argues public figures would aid hostile agencies and says Congress supports keeping figures secret. Colby notes CIA funding is within Defense appropriations and funds cross departments.
Fair skies and a warming trend are forecast by the National Weather Service for Bonham and vicinity. Minimum temperatures near 50 degrees expected Thursday morning, with highs in the upper 70s in the afternoon. Gusty southerly winds accompany the warm spell.
Charles Bellows Scoutmaster of Troop 158 and Marshall Underwood earns the Eagle badge at a VEW Home Court of Honor. James Henson of the Veterans of Foreign Wars presents the charter for Troop 158 and Cub Pack 158. Jamie Wren leads the ceremony as families attend.
Ten women and two men were selected to hear the trial of 10 current and former Houston police officers charged with illegal wiretapping. Testimony, delayed by a sick federal attorney, was set to begin soon. Judge John Singleton said jurors would not be sequestered and would be driven to and from court daily. The defendants include former Police CID chief M. L. Joe Singleton. the other nine remain employed as officers.
Newo Cub Scouts plan a Saturday kite derby at Bonham Little League Field with 9 AM registration. Kites will be judged on beauty originality and size before 10 AM flights and 11:30 AM awards. Dads may assist but not fly. kites must be handmade and must fly to win prizes in four age groups.
