South Texas Bank of Houston, a state chartered nonmember bank, reopened as South Loop National Bank after folding last week. FDIC reports 6500 depositors shifted to the new bank which will assume 7.1 million dollars in deposits and pay a 120 thousand dollar purchase premium.
District Engineer Thornburrow warned at a Paris club luncheon that Texas highway funding faces a squeeze between declining federal and state dollars and rising costs. He cited an $11 billion backlog, with only about $1.9 billion expected over the next 20 years, and outlined steps including a six year funding horizon, staff cuts, and project cancellations while McKinsey reviews options.
