Convention split likely in Oklahoma Republican ranks
Guthrie June 27 The Oklahoma City conference heard that Tulsa would refuse to nominate a ticket and oppose the Constitution. Other leaders in touch with the National Administration fear a convention battle could disrupt the party. Charles Filson served notice a Republican State ticket would be nominated and Gov Frantz backed a full ticket for the campaign as he left for the Second District opening. The convention will decide the Constitution stance.

Arrests Sweep Counterfeiting Ring Tarnishes Waters-Pierce Case
In Austin Texas June 28 1907 a judge ordered the state and federal receiverships in the Waters Pierce Oil Company case to seek protective relief from Judge Bryant of the Sherman Federal Court. In a related sensational development Ed Dooley and Edgar Smart white men from Telephone Fannin County were jailed after a midnight chase for counterfeiting and passing counterfeit silver dollars. Deputies Barrett Duer Poff and police Harve Wisdom Bud East pursued them.

The item notes counterfeiters in Fannin County and illicit whiskey operations, plus a Denison incident where Dooley and Smart attempted a home visit and fled after a counterfeit dollar was exposed. Police responded, a chase followed, and a search was begun.
Counterfeit money case leads to arrests and jail in Texas
After a nearly half hour search Smart was found hidden under a bridge on Chestnut street while Dooley was pulled from a sewer near the old candy factory. Authorities recovered eleven counterfeit dollars and signs point to molds near Telephone as the source. Dooley confessed to receiving the bills in exchange for whiskey from Fannin County men. Deputies announced warrants and the matter may be tried by the state rather than the Federal government.
