On the eve of the national convention Hoover and Dawes are being urged as a Republican ticket by Indiana backers. They argue the pair could win several western votes if Dawes supports the equalization fee plan for arm relief.
A gasket failure in the engine room of the United States ship Bruce at Norfolk navy yard caused a fatal explosion today. Three civilian employees were killed or injured in the blast and the commandant ordered an immediate investigation.
United Press reports from Rome that the stricken dirigible Talia caused a forced landing after its gondola snapped from the beam. Commander Noble and seven crew members were grounded, two injured crewmen landed, while the rest stayed with the craft drifting about thirty kilometers east of the crash site. It is believed the damaged section lies near Northeastland.
From Kings Bay June 11 Italia radio operator Guesppe Biaggio reports the crew of the Italia divided into three groups on the ice. The largest group includes Nobile and five others with two injured. A second group of six is eighteen miles east, while a third group of three lacks adequate clothing and food.
A Sunday county drive reports grain cutting underway in the west end of Fannin with grain likely to store well after cutting despite rain risks. Cotton west of the city shows promise and, with warm weather, should grow well, suggesting a favorable year for both grain and cotton crops.

Lieut Luetzow Holm in a seaplane found two wounded members of the Italia crew near Brandy Bay off the north coast of Spitzbergen. United Press reports the two were injured but alive.
Four towns Paris Denison Greenville and Bonham will field nine players each for a first scheduled golf tournament at Bonham Tuesday. The 36 holes match play begins about 8 15 a m with lunch served after the morning 18 holes. A number of crack young players are expected to test the field.
