Federal and local officers arrested a man in a Greggton trailer for the $8 000 Merchants and Planters State Bank robbery at Mount Enterprise. Loot recovered except $6. three two dollar bills identified as the missing funds. Suspect, a former Mount Enterprise resident, was brought to Marshall for charges. Police said he fled toward Mount Enterprise after the robbery and hid at friends’ home.
Clothes worn by Charles Frank King when he was arrested in the slaying of Ella B. Hamner were sent to the Texas DPS laboratory for analysis. Sheriff Dudley Jackson and County Attorney Pat Beene said the investigation continues with many loose ends, and a grand jury is to convene June 29. King was captured Tuesday night after seeking shelter from heavy rain in a barn near Ector.
U S Marines faced heavy fighting along the North South Vietnam border as casualties rose to 2941 last week. 313 Americans were killed, 2616 wounded, and 12 reported missing. Communist deaths were 2216 with South Vietnamese and Free World losses also noted. Air action spiked with 36 U S planes shot down in May.
Fannin County School Board will meet Monday at 2 p.m. in Brent’s office to hear protests by superintendents over students transferring from their district to neighboring districts. Final action is likely at the meeting.
Two U S Air Force helicopters landed at Le Bourget after a nonstop 29 hour 48 minute flight from New York. Crews of five from the 48th Aerospace Rescue and Recovery Squadron at Eglin AFB Fla. participated in the Paris International Air Expo display. The event echoed Lindbergh's historic solo flight 40 years earlier.
