The annual Lamasco Reunion will be held Sunday under the shed with a basket lunch at noon and a sing song talks and visiting in the afternoon. The event draws former residents and friends back for fellowship and good times.
Federal grand jury indicts Nelson Bunker Hunt W Hebert Hunt Percy Foreman and three attorneys plus a retired industrialist for obstruction of justice in a long running wiretap probe into the Hunt family fortune. Foreman calls the indictment relief and blames press leaks on official pressures.
UPI reports American astronauts Stafford Brand and Slayton started scientific work aboard their joint US Soviet mission. They photographed the Humbolt Current off Peru to study El Nino effects on anchovy fisheries while Russian crewmates returned to Earth and Ford praised the cooperative space venture.
Texas insurers seek a 13.8 percent average rise for homeowners policies and a 4.7 percent fire premium increase. The State Insurance Board will hear proposals August 4 from the Texas Insurance Advisory Association.
Charles John Johnson, 51, of Brookston drowned during a fishing trip in a deep hole on Bois d Arc Creek northeast of Bonham early Sunday. J. W. Frazier and C. Fraser were with him. the men left Johnson in a pickup and upon returning heard a splash. His body was recovered between 6:30 and 7:00 a.m. from about 12 feet of water after Bonham rescue units and deputies investigated. The drowning occurred on property owned by Dr. Joe Stephens. Justice of the Peace R. F. Mankin returned a death verdict.
Washington reports a 18 percent rise in serious crime in the first quarter, with robberies up 28 percent and burglaries 20 percent. Attorney General Levi blames repeat offenders and shifts from felonies to misdemeanors while noting regional increases and higher crime in large cities.
Guns taken from Joe Lynn Dodson home in Savoy during vacation were recovered Saturday night. Sheriff Raymond Taylor said all but a .410 shotgun and a BB gun were found, mostly at a Cartwright club. Suspects Kenny Godbey and David Lee Price, both of Savoy, were arrested. bond set at 2500 each.
President Ford vetoed Congress energy legislation extending price controls and delaying decontrol. House reaction uncertain as senators weigh a six month extension while Ford warns of possible special session and veto of any simple prolongation. Analysts expect possible no override despite pressure to curb gasoline price hikes.
United Nations Security Council urged Egypt to renew the 4,000 man United Nations Emergency Force in the Sinai to avoid a stalemate in the Middle East. The vote 13 to 0 with Iraq and China abstaining called on President Anwar Sadat to reconsider extending the mandate. Ambassador Bueno Plaja led the council in backing the resolution as Moynihan attended his first public meeting.
