Vienna report says Joseph Cardinal Mindszenty is released by Communist Hungary on health grounds after nearly seven years in prison. He is to live under confinement in a church building chosen by Hungarian bishops, with further religious activity curtailed.
Bonham merchants will continue to close at 9 o clock on Saturdays after a postcard poll. Paul Hoff and James Tarvin, co chairs of the Chamber of Commerce trade development committee, cited results showing no clear majority for an earlier hour. A follow up survey is planned later in the year to gauge further wishes.
Rainfall across parts of Fannin County boosted crop prospects with up to two inches in some areas. Savoy saw about one inch after a dry Thurs day, Leonard and Bonham reported light showers, and Dodd City area received about one inch Friday night and two inches the prior night. Extending across Ector and southern zones, rainfall was uneven, with still dry pockets needing more rain.

Jack Belden, long time canteen officer with the Veterans Administration, will report to the McKinney Texas hospital on July 15 1955 to assume the new canteen office. He has served three years and has been in Bonham since October 1953. Miss Ruby M Wells succeeds him as canteen officer she has worked as a sales clerk since the VA Center activation in 1963 and lives at 208 Graham Avenue.
The Giles land theft trial advances into its third week as ten state witnesses have testified out of more than fifty subpoenaed. Bascom Giles, 54, resigned as land commissioner last January after 16 years and faces charges he stole 6800 dollars in a veterans land deal tied to the Rosenow ranch in Kinney County. Prosecutors say witnesses heard Giles would receive proceeds for clearing deals.
Reverend M I Council pastor of Ravenna Methodist church remained in serious condition at Allen Memorial hospital after a Friday night crash east of Ravenna. Also injured were Mrs Houston Watson and her children Naomi 17 and Roger 12. Roger released Saturday morning. All were returning from Mulberry revival meetings.
Bonham Chamber of Commerce received letters between A G Pat Mayse and Roy Matthias discussing a brochure with pictures charts and information to promote making Red River navigable from New Orleans to Denison. The plan seeks congressional interest and urges immediate action.
Bonham ISD announces a second Salk vaccine round for first and second graders at Bailey Inglish Stevenson and Washington schools. Clinic begins 8 a.m. Wednesday with local doctors and nurses administering shots. Transportation and schedules for rural schools to be announced. about 700 doses from Eli Lilly arrive Friday night.
President Eisenhower lands at Cointrin airport Geneva to join Anthony Eden and Edgar Faure for the Big Four talks. He vows to seek a tranquil world and a fuller life, saying the goodwill of America is the path to peace as Soviet conferees arrive later. Security teams and helicopters monitor the scene.
Bonham merchants earned national publicity as Boxoffice featured a full page story on BBBB Bonham's Big Bargain Bonanza held June 27. Plans for a July 28 repeat were announced with Harvey Foreman inviting all local merchants to join and boost the event.

Eighty inmates rioted at Wyoming State Prison when a convict knifed a captain of guards. Three guards were taken hostage as tear gas was used to restore order. Warden Dean Miller rushed from Encampment to negotiate with rioters. Capt. Ben Reeves was slashed in the scuffle.
