Fannin County Commissioners Court tentatively set a 1960 property tax rate of $1.11 per $100 valuation, unchanged from the prior three years. The proposed split allocates 95 cents to operating funds and 16 cents to debt service.
The court tentatively approves a 27 cent road and bridge levy and related funds for improvements and dams. Radar gear costing about 995 is debated for use by county and highway patrol on state and federal routes. Officials authorize a 50 expense for veterans training and discuss delinquent tax collection and hospital policy changes.
Commissioner Jim Wise recalls several incidents with fresh concrete around the courthouse including a man lifting a rope barrier and wading through setting concrete. A US military C-47 transport vanished near Quito while en route from Bogota carrying 14 passengers and 4 crew including families of US service members. Two Ecuadorian diplomats were aboard. It was unclear if the aircraft had crashed or if anyone survived. Names of those aboard were not released.

Waters noted overall sentiment favored Lyndon Johnson, but unofficial polls suggested as many as one third would vote Kennedy. He urged telegrams and calls from Alabamans to reflect voters’ wishes.
Mexico rejects responsibility for statements made in Congress linking to Cuba and stresses foreign policy is set by the executive. Foreign Minister Manuel Tello says Congress members do not bind official policy and that the minister’s note omits Mexico's public stance on Cuba in its dispute with the United States.
