Rites Held for Gus Rowland Retired Farmer Died 1958
Funeral services and interment for Gus Rowland 81 were held Wednesday at Wise Funeral chapel with Rev. J E Fender of Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Burial followed in Ravenna cemetery. Rowland died July 9 1958 in Allen Memorial hospital Bonham Texas after a short illness. He had lived in Fannin County for many years and was a retired farmer. Born July 31 1874 in Arkadelphia Arkansas he is survived by four sons Hannie Rowland Slaton Ruben Rowland Rockford Samuel Rowland Greenbelt two half brothers J D Rowland Joe Rowland of Roscoe two daughters Mrs Bessie Mac Williams Lubbock and Mrs Elvinae Thompson Sherman one brother Alvin Rowland Ivanhoe and one sister Mrs Donna Walker Bonham.

Prisoner Wounded In Escape Attempt In Beaumont
In Beaumont Texas three men were wounded during an escape attempt at Jefferson County jail. Chief Jailer Roy Buck 56 received a three inch stab wound from a sharpened wire. prisoner Paul Francis Malies 19 from Houston had two throat and two arm gunshot wounds. Deputy Jailer Turner Ross 65 suffered minor stab wounds. Buck and Malies underwent surgery Tuesday night.

1956 Farm Production Expected Below 1955 but Near Five-Year Average
The Agriculture Department expects total 1956 crops to be considerably below 1955’s near record total, yet near the five-year average. The crop board estimates a 103 percent index versus 105 in 1955, with total acreage about 1 percent below last year and 351 million acres planted for 59 crops, the lowest since 1941. Severe drought in the Dakotas and weather risks could still alter output. The corn crop is projected at 3.266 billion bushels, the third largest ever, with a 42.1 bushel per acre yield, behind 1948’s record.

Mrs. Cordie BE Shepard 76 native of Bonham died in Tulsa Oklahoma with services set for Saturday at 10 a m. Interment at Rose Hill Cemetery in Tulsa. She was sister to Mrs. C J Haggard and mother of Fay C Shepard of Bonham. She had lived in Tulsa since 1919 and belonged to Assembly of God church. Survivors include two daughters two sons two sisters four brothers seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
