Bonham and Fannin County residents have three days to qualify for 1962 elections as poll taxes for state and city are due by Wednesday January 31. About 3200 state poll taxes and 500 city taxes have been paid plus additional sales in Honey Grove Leonard Ladonia and by the Bonham Jaycees. Offices close at 5 p.m. Wednesday for tax collections and ad valorem taxes are also due.
W L Barnett Bonham manager for Texas Power and Light was re elected president of the Bonham Chamber of Commerce for the coming year. The board unanimously asked him to serve again citing last year’s accomplishments and upcoming projects. Claude Hodge was re elected treasurer and Mrs J D Butler secretary. Kenneth Hall C C manager on leave for service with the 49th division attended. The armory site land acquisition progress was discussed with Col Joseph Gibbs urging swift action west of the Sam Rayburn Library for early construction.
Twenty one Navy ships and 15 000 men remained at sea after Glenn's orbital flight was postponed by weather. The recovery fleet led by USS Randolph USS Enterprise and USS Wasp formed a 1200 mile crescent from Cape Canaveral to Bermuda and the Bahamas ready to retrieve the capsule and astronaut.
Yugoslavia, via a government spokesman, reiterates Marshal Tito's support for Cuba's right to independence and sovereignty. Officers also investigated a break in at the Brown Store on West 4th with no items reported missing and later picked up a man and woman wanted by Garland police in connection with worthless checks.

Fannin county voters prepare to choose a successor to the late Sam Rayburn in a Tuesday special election for the Fourth Congressional district. State Sen ator Ray Roberts and former district judge R C Slagle Jr lead in campaigning and expect results by 8 p m. Polls open 8 a m to 7 p m with rapid tabulation planned.
About 300 residents from Fannin County attended a Saturday afternoon reception at the Bonham Golf Club for Senator Len Roberts and Mrs. Roberts. The event, sponsored by Fannin County friends of the senator, supported his bid for the Fourth Congressional District seat, left vacant by the death of Speaker Sam Rayburn. The Saturday event followed Friday rallies in Sherman as Roberts and opponent Bob Slagle campaigned ahead of the runoff primary Tuesday. Mrs. S. E. Bartley, sister of the late Rayburn, was among the visitors.

The U S Weather Bureau predicts fair skies for the Bonham area on Sunday. A low near freezing is expected Sunday morning with afternoon highs in the upper 50s. North Central Texas stays fair through Sunday and slightly warmer conditions are noted in the northwest.
Bonham residents will join about 100 women in the annual Mothers March starting at 7 p.m. at the First Christian church education building. Mrs. Grady Taylor, chairwoman, notes the event aims to boost the drive with porch light signals and white handkerchiefs for those without lights.
