Gov. John Connally promised state legislators he will seek many changes to modernize state government after taking a second term oath. He stressed education and water supply as priorities while outlining plans for the biennium and urged local solutions to local problems.

Ruth Jones, city tax officer, said 303 city polls paid through Monday while Henry Joe Fletcher counted about 2,500 state poll taxes sold in the county.
