Fire siren signals start of Bonham Mothers March tonight with block captains named by Mrs. Henry McAnally Jr. Volunteers will cover assigned areas and report back to First Christian church. Contributions can be signaled by porch lights or other indicators. Funds support polio treatment locally and NF research.
Residents of Edhube and Cantrell Folks seek to keep the former schoolhouse as a community center. A 7 p.m. Wednesday meeting plans to decide on the building’s future and invites all Edhube residents to participate. The district merged with Bonham last summer, transferring students to Bonham schools.
In Dallas a bailiff wounded one of two handcuffed prisoners on the second floor of the county courthouse as they fled toward a stairway. The injured man, Jack Williams, a robbery suspect, was taken to a hospital in good condition. Billy Joe Huckabay, handcuffed to Williams, was recaptured. Deputy Ed Crews said both prisoners were secured when the attempted break occurred while being escorted to Judge Henry King’s criminal district court.
Dense fog and light drizzle reduced visibility across South Central Texas as the winter siege loosens. Panhandle sun and above freezing readings provided contrast with Dalhart 17 and El Paso 65, while Victoria 0.5, Brownsville 0.4, and Laredo 0.3 inches marked light rainfall statewide.
An Arlington couple and a Fort Worth man filed for a Texas corporation to promote social nudism. The plan names W R Campbell as registered agent with Anna Campbell and Alfred Wupperman as proposed directors. The firm would issue 25000 shares at one dollar each to own and manage nature parks and nudist groups. The secretary of state Zolhe Steakley planned to decide by Saturday. Fort Worth attorney Jake C Cook filed the application for Gladden and Cook with Rep Don Gladden as the other firm member.
Bonham and vicinity expect a warming trend through Tuesday after sub freezing lows. Tuesday morning should reach at least 34 degrees with an afternoon high near 52. Prior days saw 22 degree and 18 degree minimums.
Joan Dodd Fletcher, daughter of Mr and Mrs Henry Joe Fletcher, was chosen by Dodd City high school faculty as the Good Citizen recipient from the George Blakey Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She led yearbook staff, presided over the senior class, and joined the Science club, attends Church of Christ activities, and plans to enter Abilene Christian College.
Three Bonham youths were questioned by County Attorney Tibby Wright and Chief O R McKissack about a chain beating of Bob Thomas a Bonham high senior and basketball player. Thomas stopped to aid Freddie Hale when attacked. one youth fled. The chain was found under a mattress. two suspects released after brief questioning. juvenile action possible in days ahead.
Havana editors question whether Castro supporters burn newspapers as Hitler did. An editorial contrasts Castro’s promises of press freedom with reports of stolen or burned papers in several towns. Sheriff Hoyt Ivey said charges of assault with intent to murder will be filed soon in the Sunday morning shooting at Jeff Fitzwater's Bonham residence. Four bullet holes were found after an earlier argument. two men reportedly involved returned to Fitzwater's home where shots were fired.

Paris reports de Gaulle reaffirmed Algeria policy as European settlers in Algiers resist his call for order. A government communique said armed forces were instructed on handling the settlers rebellion. Information Minister Frey declined to comment on the communique.
