United Press reports Chicago police jailed 3,500 underworld figures in the largest roundup in city history. Police raided cabarets, beer joints, hotels, and speakeasies to curb lawlessness amid hundreds of robberies and four murders last week.
Federal troops crushed a west coast uprising in Guatemala with artillery and planes. Rebels flee through the mountains as government forces pursue, with considerable bloodshed reported. Three rebel provinces are now under government control and the countryside is quieting.
McCamey now boasts a golf course and work is progressing rapidly on the new clubhouse for the country club.
Welch Oklahoma reports a farmer Harvey Dennis set 450 pounds of dynamite in 15 charges under crow roosts. A battery quarter mile away triggered the blast, killing 1492 crows. The next day he counted 74.60 dollars in bounty, with the blast felt ten miles away in Welch and Bluejacket.
United Press reports in Austin on January 21 that nine charges against the conduct of the State Land Office are listed in a resolution by Albert Petsch of Fredericksburg. He asks investigation and that the resolution be printed in the house journal before action.
The six year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Kilpatrick died from burns received when coal oil used to start a fire flamed up and engulfed them.
