Estes Ordered to Jail After Supreme Court Refusal
Billie Sol Estes, once powerful in agriculture, spent his first night in jail since 1962 after the US Supreme Court refused to review his conspiracy and mail fraud conviction. Judge Thomason revoked his $120,000 bond. Estes faces a possible immediate 15 year term if he does not pursue a last appeal.

Liquor Seized From Car in Dry Territory Case
A complaint of transportation of liquor in a dry area was filed in county court against James Johnson Jr. 39 after officers stopped his car on FM 1281 and found wine, nine pints of whiskey, vodka, a pint of brandy, a .22 rifle, and liquor hidden in the car’s air conditioning unit near Ladonia.

Supreme Court Denies Hearing for Scarbeck Lightening Secret Case

On State Highway 78 in Bailey late Monday light damage occurred in a two car collision. Highway Patrolman Dwayne Cox investigated and identified drivers as Billy Carl Johnson of Bailey and Earl Leste Hopkins of Leonard Rt. 1. Hopkins drove south on 78 while Johnson came from a side street.

Two defendants in a two car collision case were fined in corporation court on Monday. One was fined $20 for running a red light and the other $25 for giving false information to officers.
UT Journalism School to be honored at 50th anniversary meet
The University of Texas School of Journalism will be honored at the 18th annual Texas Press Association mid winter meeting in Austin. About 300 newspaper men are expected to attend with a Friday reception and dinner at the Commodore Perry Hotel. Parachute Charged in Wichita KC-135 Crash Dispute
Oklahoma City based Oklahoma Journal published a photo of a red drogue parachute entwined in one engine of the Wichita KC-135 crash jet. Air Force officials disputed the claim, saying no evidence tied the chute to the crash which killed 29. Johnson grass also found in another engine.
