Bonham State Re Elects Arledge New Head of First National

Bonham state bank re organized its leadership at the annual meeting Tuesday. John F. Arledge moved to the presidency of the First National Bank after 60 years with Dick Saunders. David A. McMahon Sr became board chairman succeeding Bland Smith. Roby Windham advanced to executive vice president and Jim A. Wiggins to assistant vice president. John Armstrong joined the board replacing Roy Owens who retired but remains with the bank.

Relay Satellite Launched Today

A substitute for the crippled Lani Bird satellite entered orbit from Cape Kennedy racing toward a full time North America to Far East link. If the final orbital shift succeeds, it will relay telephone and television 24 hours daily between Australia, Japan, Hawai i and the mainland after reaching the Pacific outpost in three or four days.

Thompson arrives in Moscow carrying Johnson message

Bonham Weather Sees Little Change Through Friday

The U S Weather Bureau expects clear skies warm days and cool nights in the Bonham area through Friday. Overnight lows may drop below freezing while afternoon highs reach the upper 50s to low 60s. Temperatures overall stay near normal with little rain expected though light showers may reach south North Central Texas. Bonham recorded a low in the low 20s and sub freezing readings are forecast Thursday morning. A large high pressure system keeps the nation under clear and cool skies.

Three grass fires kept Bonham firemen busy around 1 p.m. Tuesday with runs to the Oakland community and on the ola ctor pike. The Oakland blaze destroyed three small barns and burned a large pasture.

B52 strikes unveil Viet Cong bases near Saigon

U S B52 bombers attacked less than a mile from American troops in the Iron Triangle 27 miles north of Saigon uncovering five Viet Cong base camps in the Thang Dien forest. The operation Cedar Falls aimed to clear a 60 square mile jungle stronghold with 16 000 American troops advancing behind bulldozers and armored spearheads.

SR7 Super Spy plane damaged in wet runway test at Edwards AFB

A 2000 mph SR7 prototype suffered landing gear failure during a wet runway test at Edwards AFB. Civilian test pilot Art Peterson escaped injury. The aircraft's damage extent was not disclosed. The prior week another SR7 crashed near Las Vegas. the pilot Walter Ray, 33, was found dead.

Chapter to Be Organized at First Presbyterian Church

A Bonhim chapter of the Order of the Arrow will be organized in a meeting tonight at 7 p.m. in the education building of the First Presbyterian church. All Scouts Explorers and adult leaders are invited. Jimmy Collins will preside. officers will be elected and a year program discussed.

Directors Seek Tax Add On County Roll

The Caney Creek Watershed directory requested the county tax be added to the county roll. County tax collector Henry Joe Fletcher announced the commissioners' court gave unanimous approval. Commissioner Robert Bellows moved the grant and Commissioner John Avery seconded. Fletcher said the tax would be added as approved.
