Cantrell Loflin Priddy Post 110 American Legion in Leonard hosts a domino tournament Monday night at 7 30 PM in the Legion Hall with trophies for first and second place. All domino players from Fannin and nearby counties are invited to attend.
A 39-year-old Mission man filed a $239000 suit in Edinburg Tex alleging Griffin and Brand Produce Co and its truck driver Guadalupe Delagado caused a collision when the driver swerved into Perryman's lane. The incident occurred Friday and is linked to the McAllen based produce firm.
A cold Canadian air mass hit Bonham causing light rain and freezing temps after a 77 high Friday. Saturday reached 34 degrees, a 43 degree drop, with .40 inch rain, ice on exposed surfaces, and motorists warned to take care. Temperatures expected to dip near freezing Sunday morning, then near 40s in the afternoon.
Sen Ralph Hall and Rep James Cole back a move to shift Fannin county from the Northwest Texas Zone to the Central Zone to secure lower crop insurance rates. Faye Jones cites a rate of 560 per 1000 for crop insurance and urges moving nearby counties into the Central district to reduce penalties from frequent hail and windstorm losses. Len Hall and Jones plan to meet with the State Insurance Board to present data and seek support for the transfer. County Judge Choice Moore chairs the meeting.

Washington reports that after four years, Sen. Ralph Yarborough D Texas wins a seat on the Senate Appropriations Committee. He leaves his fifth ranking spot on the Commerce Committee to fill the vacancy created by Hubert Humphrey’s departure for the vice presidency.
Russians are asked to replace Khrushchev dated pages in calendars printed in 1964 with new ones. A March 1964 calendar retains Khrushchev’s birthday note for April 17. the updated pages omit Khrushchev and update to Brezhnev and Kosygin with current titles and offices.
Texas faces a pivotal opening as the 1964 session starts in Austin with the House leaderless after Byron Tunnell’s appointment to the railroad commission. Rep. Ben Barnes appears poised to win the speakership with Gov. Connally’s backing, while the Senate maintains continuity under Lt. Gov. Preston Smith. The five point communique reaffirms power transfer to civilians, calls for a national convention, and release of detained council members. The U.S. embassy welcomes the move but questions future aid talks.
Linda Marshall of Bonham was named alternate first soprano at tryouts in Commerce for the All State choir. She attends Bonham High School where she has earned top division honors in voice piano ensemble and solo since eighth grade. She joins one Greenville student as alternates for the All-State performance in Dallas February 30 12 under the Texas Music Educators Association.
