A 15 year old, Ronny Ray Brown, was killed when a car overturning during a circle drive in a vacant lot in Wichita Falls left two other youths injured and one hospitalized in satisfactory condition. Police said the teens were racing around the field when the crash occurred.

United Press International reports a New Year ice storm left a slippery coating on bridges and overpasses across about two thirds of Texas. Emergency landing operations were called, highways mostly opened for rush hour, while police urged cautious driving as temperatures ranged from teens in the Panhandle to the 40s in the Lower Rio Grande Valley.

Bonham Hears Grant Plan For Water Sewer Street Rehab
Bonham city commission holds public hearing on a 250000 HUD grant to upgrade water and sewer lines and streets, rehab about 30 houses, and improve drainage in East and South Bonham areas including Tanktown and Maple and Poplar streets. Local work includes replacing 1860 feet of 2 inch water mains with 6 inch lines and 4000 feet of 4 inch sewer mains with 8 inch lines, paving 14 blocks of dirt streets, resurfacing eight blocks, and clearing brush. The hearing happens tonight at 7 p.m. in city hall.

Father kills son during heated gun confrontation
In Los Angeles a father, Antonio Alvarado, 38, grabbed a handgun from his teen son after learning the boy had the weapon outside the house and fired accidentally, killing 14 year old Antonio Alvarado Jr. Who later died at a hospital. The mother heard a second shot and found her husband dead.
