A three judge federal panel in Houston granted a 30 day stay on its ruling that poll tax as a voting prerequisite is unconstitutional while upholding the voter registration act passed in the recent special session. The March 3 to 18 registration period remains in effect and voters in city and local option elections statewide must pay the poll tax.
