Bond issue election set for March 10 announced by the school board. Local students will host events and fundraisers as community members prepare to vote. Amid wintery conditions, residents discuss holiday routines and local happenings including young animals seeking warmth and a grand jury visit.
Voters will decide March 10 on issuing 2.5 million dollars in bonds to fund a major school improvement plan. The program adds 10 classrooms and a cafeteria to the junior high, builds a seventh and eighth grade building, renovates vocational, gym and auditorium facilities, relocates the football field, and constructs a new high school. The bond issue is phased with the junior high project first.
British Prime Minister Harold Wilson departs Moscow after three days of talks and says he has sent a personal message signaling North Viet Nam may compromise on Viet Cong representation. He called talks with Kosygin and Kremlin officials extremely frank and hard hitting and useful.
Members of the Agri-Business committee will meet Thursday night at the Texas Power and Light assembly room to map the spring judging for the Texas Rural Improvement contest under the new rules. Presidents of county community improvement clubs are invited. Chairman W L Barnett said dinner will be served at 6 30 with discussion on the new judging procedure and other business. The new plan requires communities to be selected on the local level for district competition, replacing prior district judging team entries.
A 6th District grand jury voted two true bills at a January term session. Sammy Lee Pointer was indicted for robbery by assault with bond set at $2000. Jerry Lee Davis faced an indictment for defrauding by worthless check with a $3200 draft. The jury recessed for April 13 to return its findings. Judge A M Harrison thanked the jurors as they were dismissed.
The United States and Algeria sign a $125 million food assistance agreement for shipment of 73 million bushels of wheat to Algeria. The long term credit sales, part of an aid program, replace a prior deal that expired last June and was signed in Algiers.

The Fannin County Historical Survey Committee leads the ceremony with County Judge Choice Moore as master of ceremonies and Mrs. H A Burow presenting a history of the courthouse background and prior structure.
President Johnson's six million war tax plan faces Senate trouble as House votes 246 to 146 to approve the bill, narrowly defeating GOP efforts to remove auto and telephone excise taxes. Senate Finance Committee set hearings for Friday on the measure.

R. Van Zandt and City Officers Kenneth Templeton and Jay Duckworth. An arrest was announced for a man wanted on several worthless checks.
A bearded youth, Charly Skorge 20, was charged with murder after a hotel blaze killed one person and injured several others. He was arrested at 1 am EST in Mineola after police say he set the three story hotel on fire amid anger over eviction and reprimands about his appearance and living habits.
Gov. John Connally signed a new Texas voter registration law making voting free in all elections for the first time in 64 years. The measure, supported by Senate and House sponsors, ends the poll tax and sets an emergency registration period March 3 to March 17 for eligible voters who had not paid poll taxes. The change follows an Austin federal court ruling deeming the poll tax unconstitutional, with the Supreme Court expected to uphold that ruling.
Twelve suspects were in custody and two were sought in a federal theft case involving nearly 750000 dollars of government equipment including Viet Nam War engine parts. Ten held in Los Angeles, two in San Francisco near Alameda Naval Air Station. indictments followed a nationwide FBI probe led by J Edgar Hoover.
