A police chemist testified that a hair found in the victim Jacques Messier’s palm did not match killer Melvin Lane Powers. Messier, a 69 year old banker, was stabbed and bludgeoned in his Key Biscayne apartment on July 30, 1964, as the defense contests the connection to Powers and an alleged conspiracy with Candace Viewster and others.
Britain plans to base a small force of American supersonic bombers with missile armed submarines and destroyers. The fleet air arm will shift to land based aircraft for rapid long distance strikes. Adm Sir David Luce and Navy Minister Christopher Mayhew resigned in protest over the policy change.
