New Delhi reports a timed explosive blast in a crowded coach between Kamarbandhall and marking stations. Government officials say 36 people died and 53 were injured as saboteurs, possibly from the Naga rebellion, are suspected.
President Johnson said he is sustained by prayers from Americans as he faces daily decisions to send troops. He cited a mother’s letter from Vietnam expressing pain and faith, read at a presidential prayer breakfast attended by over 1,000 leaders. Lt. Col. Walter B. Russell, shot in the head in Vietnam, appeared and extended his greeting to the President. Billy Graham closed the event by affirming prayers and support.
Congressman Ray Roberts of McKinney is appointed to a Public Works Subcommittee on roads and highways, joining the committee focus on federal highway authorizations and infrastructure funding for the district.

The January term grand jury of 6th District Court, summoned by Judge AM Harrison, will meet at 10 am on February 23 to review cases developed since December. The session follows a February 22 holiday, allowing action without a holiday break.
A House State Affairs subcommittee worked until dawn on a voter registration bill modeled after the annual system. Chairman Rep. Dick Cory of Victoria set a full committee meeting for today as the House finished six minutes into the weekend. The Senate bill, approved by committee, heads for floor debate next week. The committee rejected a compromise.
Bonham area expects warmer weather tonight and Friday after a frosty start with a 20 degree low. Skies clear overnight with fair to partly cloudy conditions and gradual warming. Dalhart and Abilene reported 18 degree minimums, Brownsville 48, with frost extending to the Nacogdoches to Del Rio corridor. Local political notes discuss a proposed annual voter registration plan backed by Gov. Connally, hearing held by committees, amendments, and opposition from the League of Women Voters and labor groups.
Investigating officers estimated $135 in damage after a chain collision at the Main and Sam Rayburn Drive intersection Thursday. City Officers Jay Duckworth and Kenneth Templeton identified drivers as Opal Taylor of Honey Grove and Jack Wood of Bonham.
A giant Soviet TUL airliner crashed on its maiden Moscow to Brazaville flight at Sheremetievo Airport. Most of the 48 aboard were killed as the plane struck a snowbank and exploded in heavy snow and fog. Soviet officials did not confirm the crash.
Dr. Fred Spencer president of the Texas Heart Association told Fannin County and Bonham civic club members that heart care has progressed greatly in the past 12 years. He cited open heart surgery starting in 1993 and noted arterial sclerosis causing 90 percent of deaths from heart disease. He warned that 75 percent of children born with heart defects can be treated medically or surgically, enabling normal lives. The talk covered heart function, medical treatments, and new devices to support the heart. Community leaders thanked supporters including Kiwanis Rotary Lions and local women’s clubs for organizing the joint event.
Fannin County Rural Electric Co-Operative offers a chance for a boy and a girl from Fannin County to win all expenses paid trips to Washington by winning an oratorical contest. J. W. Cunningham, manager, announces the upcoming event.
In Santo Domingo a sniper fired on an American sentry guarding U.S. Ambassador William Tapley Bennete’s residence. Five shots were exchanged with no hits. The attack occurred amid 16 shooting incidents and bomb blasts overnight, with one young girl killed in a separate blast.
Three Negros youths from La donia were fined $50 on misdemeanor theft charges in Justice of Peace Clerk Benton’s court. They were accused in connection with items stolen from Jeter's Grocery and from electrics cooperatives nationwide. The contest offers a Washington trip to winners. entries open to ages 16 to 18.
New York dispatch reports the U S Post Office will hire women as mail carriers under the federal civil rights law banning sex discrimination. Fifteen women were sent from a New York station, Branch Manager Max Hammer approving the move as progress. One carrier notes the job is welcome though the bag is heavy.
