Freeman of USNR Sea Bees Arrives in Oakland for Recovery
Mrs Wilhan Freeman, living in New Caledonia, received a telegram from her husband William Freeman Carpenter's Mate of the USNR Sea Bees. He arrived in Oakland California aboard a hospital train and is recuperating from malaria and tropical ailments. After 18 months in the Navy and 15 months overseas, Freeman is awaiting a leave. He began training at Norfolk Virginia and Oxnard California. A two cent piece is noted as the first commuted with the phrase In God We Trust.
