Senator Ralph Hall of Rockwall asked County Judge Chaine Mauie to co author a measure under which the state would shoulder voter registration costs. Hall argued counties face undue burden from funding registration efforts and urged state funding for any registration legislation the Legislature might approve.

In Austin two rival plans vie for annual versus permanent voter registration to replace the poll tax. Gov Connally backs an emergency 16 day registration and annual reregistration, while opponents push a permanent system allowing registration to endure as long as the voter remains active. Lawmakers hold hearings and push for quick action as sessions proceed.
Three Negro men are to be taken to Dallas Wednesday for a polygraph test regarding a Laduma burglary. They were arrested Monday by sheriff's deputies in connection with the burglary of Clark sehugs at Ladumta and questioned in connection with other crimes.
Weldon Nelson was elected superintendent of the Ector Schools at a Monday night meeting. Gaylan Murray, president of the Rector school, announced Nelson succeeds Zack Zagg ers as superintendent.
UPI reports Defense Secretary McNamara testified that the United States prepared to deploy more troops to South Vietnam if needed, with President Johnson retaining final decision authority. He warned the Communists have increased their fighting strength and intend to intensify the war, while opposing broader bombing of North Vietnam. Generals Wheeler and McConnell supported continuing airpower but cautioned against overreliance on coastal defense concepts.
Mrs. Dick Grunert announced no tickets will be sold at the church door for the Heart Society event at 12 noon Wednesday at 7th and Main Boo st church. All reservations were sent, and attendees will join Dr Fred D Spencer Jr and R Bonham civic clubs at noon to discuss test developments in heart ailment care.
