State welfare director Murchison told a Senate committee he faced jeers and hostile remarks since taking the post in September. He denied personal knowledge of some critics and blamed persistent opposition for delays in aid distribution while citing discussions with Gov. Oviatt and other officials.

He defeated Clarence Hightower Pete Lemmons and Joe Morgan. J D Woods won first vice president. Betty Lou Brewer second vice president. Gussie Birchfield third vice president. Leslie Earl Reed treasurer. George Ann Morgan secretary. Evelyn Tune also won a post. The election ended a vigorous campaign with details of margins and rival candidates.
Tames B. Strickland a longtime Ector County resident and retired farmer died Sunday at age 94 in Ector Rt. 1. Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. from the Ector Cemetery with Rev W H Baye officiating. Survivors include Minnie Strickland and three sons George Clovis and another son in El Paso, plus two daughters in Merseville and Dennie, and five grandchildren.
Austin Feb A part of the Texas Highway Department advance planning the Highway commission approved a list of 74 projects totaling 12 588 000 to be constructed under the 1942 regular aid program Projects on this program must be on federal highways and funds become available July 1 1942 contract lettings will be monthly starting July 1942 The program and the work include the entire allotment for regular federal aid and will be submitted to the Public Works Administration for approval Plans and specifications for projects must be submited
