Two Men Held in Car Theft Attempt in Fannin County
Two white men were held in the Fannin county jail Tuesday after an attempted car theft at 2 a.m. Monday. Deputy Sheriffs Leon Shastid and H. R. Van Zandt arrested them as they tried to back a car from Rayburn Hale's driveway. One man carried a quantity of barbiturates. stolen items were found in the back seat. The fleeing pair abandoned a car after the gas tank was damaged causing a gasoline leak.

Edward Brownlee Dies in Bonham Services Set for Tuesday
Edward Brownlee 82, longtime Bonham resident and former traveling salesman for Carlton Dry Goods and Eli Walker of St Louis, died Monday after a heart attack. Funeral Tuesday at 2 PM at Wise Funeral chapel with Rev. William H. Cheatham officiating. burial in Willow Wild cemetery. Survived by wife Katherine “Kitty” Meyer Brownlee, a host of relatives, and siblings. Born September 15, 1882 in Bonham, he spent summers in Colorado after retirement and remained active in the First Presbyterian Church.

Light Damage in Two-Car Collision on South 5th Street
Officers Thurman Renfro and Kenneth Rice identified drivers as Patsy Ford of 1123 South 4th and Roy Richard Price of Amarillo. The crash on South 5th caused light damage to both cars, estimated at 90 dollars. Tickets were issued for failure to yield right of way and for not having an operator's license.

Two Escapees Flee County Jail In Texas Swindle
Jerry N Gillingham 25 of Dallas and James Daughtry escaped from Van Zandt County Jail after a gun was smuggled to Gillingham. They fled in a 1964 brown Plymouth with California plates. Gillingham, facing robbery charges, was due before a grand jury today for a department store burglary and a Will Point jewelry store robbery.

Gifts Rolling In Robnett Fund Nearing $500
General Cable employees and the public contributed to the Robnett fund to aid Claude Roberts and Anita Kay Robnett after a fatal automobile crash that claimed two adults and a 5-year-old. By 10 30 Monday morning the total reached 496.69 with new gifts from many local residents and companies. Anita Kay, the sole survivor, was improving enough to be moved from Parkland to Bonham. U S and South Vietnamese aircraft struck North Viet Nam bases for the second day. Gen Nguyen Khanh said 70 percent of Vinh Linh objectives were destroyed as Skyraider bombers and American planes attacked near the border. One Skyraider was shot down but the pilot parachuted to South Viet Nam.
