The Defense Department released the names of four USS Pueblo crew members wounded in North Korea's hijacking. One crewman has died and the others survived with serious injuries. Names were withheld pending next of kin notification. The Pueblo, with 83 aboard, was boarded in the Sea of Japan on January 23.
Six members of Troop 52 sponsored by First Presbyterian church will receive Eagle Scout badges at a Court of Honor in Fellowship Hall First Methodist church at 7 p.m. Louis Williams of Paris will present the badges. Recipients are Mike McIntyre Lynn Lovelace Royce Smithey Jerry Winnett David Collins Steve Justice.
Paris Junior College president Louis B Williams will present six Eagle Scout badges to Troop 52 members at a Court of Honor in Fellowship Hall First Methodist Church at 7 p m. He is noted for extensive Scouting and civic leadership in Paris and Lamar County including past roles with NeTseo Trails Council Red River Council Girl Scouts Paris Rotary United Fund and local civic boards. He and his wife live in Paris have two children and he holds degrees from the University of Texas and East Texas State University.
County Judge Choice Moore announced right of way is secured for 1.7 miles of new highway through the Lake Bonham area with county cost $3 144 95 while the state plans to spend $352 000. The State 12 loop from U S 82 to State 78 will cost $32 747 in rights of way with shared funding and is expected to trigger $1 200 000 in construction to serve the new high school and athletic fields, easing residential traffic.
Jimmy Collins scoutmaster of Troop 52 at First Presbyterian church led Rotarians Wednesday noon on a pictorial trip to the Palmont ranch near Cimarron New Mexico. He commented on film made last summer showing a scouts group there. Program chairman Hib Travis introduced Junior Rotarians Frank Carpenter and Jimmy Arie.
Philip Blatberg, the world s only surviving heart transplant patient, remains in completely satisfactory condition but worries doctors at Groote Schuur Hospital Cape Town as the report notes he is stable yet concerning.
U S and Allied forces report Lang Vei camp near Laos overrun after a Soviet built tank assault with 9 tanks and 800 North Vietnamese. U S claims Berets knocked out several tanks and held lines in bunkers while aerial and artillery support continued. Casualty figures vary with reports of heavy combat in Hue Saigon and Da Nang as urban warfare persists through the tenth day of fighting and allied losses mount.
Bonham recorded a 29 degree low overnight with another near 29 expected Thursday. A new cold front swept south Tuesday with a strong north wind that rattled windows and tossed cans and papers. Skies were clear and forecasters expect a slight warming by Thursday with no precipitation noted. Ground remains too wet for work as crews repair street and pavement breaks.
