Police dismantled a hi-pie commune in Caracas on Thursday arresting 43 people. Twenty one detainees were minors and most were pregnant. Police said to avoid prosecution the girls must marry.
Arab and Israeli forces held fire along the Suez Canal as a 30 day cease-fire extension was granted to push UN mediated talks forward. Egypt seeks Israel’s troop pullback to reopen the canal closed since 1967 while Sadat urges real progress in the indirect talks led by Gunnar V. Jarring in New York. Meir calls for indefinite extension and Dayan notes readiness on the east bank.
Harvard nutritionist Jean Mayer called migrant workers honorable fools for choosing work over welfare and urged hunger relief reforms after the White House conference on food and health. He cited gaps in programs leaving migrants ineligible for food stamps unemployment Medicare and private hospital access.
