Mayor Gene Danner gave a government quiz to the Rotary Club and the Democratic Women’s Club. The questions cover city structure including commissioners wards at large seats term lengths meeting times budget sources and charter history with names of charter writers and mayoral election rules.

Two-Car Wreck Damages Gas Meter and Garbage Can

Honey Grove suffered major damage in a two car collision on 14th street over the weekend. Drivers Jess Lee Corley and Roy Marmaduke of Hurd, both Honey Grove, were identified by Highway Patrolman Bob Ridley. Corley left the turn. Marmaduke, attempting to pass, struck Corley and then hit a gas meter and a garbage can, driving through a yard to avoid the crash. Patrolman Ridley estimated damage over 700.

Collision on U. S. 69 Injures Leonard Resident

One person hospitalized after a two car crash on U. S. 69 in Leonard. Robert Layman of Whitewright taken to Sherman hospital with undetermined injuries while K C Sparks of Leonard, making a left turn into a construction lot, was not hurt. Total damage about 1500 dollars.

Candidates Must File Tonight for Fannin Primary Ballot

County and precinct hopefuls in Fannin County must file by midnight with Roy Doyle at his Honey Grove home to secure a ballot spot in the first Democratic primary on May 4. The Democratic Executive Committee will meet next Monday to weigh primary costs against filing candidates.

Firemen respond to mattress fire and two grass blazes

The Bonham fire department worked over the weekend at 709 West 7th where a mattress in an unoccupied house burned. Crews also tackled two grass fires: one north on State 78 toward Barwood's place and another on West 10th.

Sheriff Dudley Jackson identified Theodore Roskosky of Bonham as the burglary suspect. The bond was set at $5,000 pending further proceedings.

Mothers March Raises Over 500 for Birth Defects Fight

Members of the VFW Auxiliary of the James Bragg post organized the 1968 Mothers March in Bonham. About 500 plus dollars were raised as workers gathered at the VFW Hall at 1 p.m. and reported back after canvassing assigned areas.

Viet Cong forces estimated 400 men captured a police substation in central Saigon and attacked the nearby police district headquarters as part of a broader wave of North Vietnamese assaults around Khe Sanh. U.S. Marines and government troops conducted counterattacks, with house to house fighting in Cholon and near Hue.

Two Slightly Injured in Bonham Weekend Accidents

Bonham residents Alvin Bernard Hartwell and Mike Long received first aid after a motorcycle car collision at West 9th and Center streets. Hartwell dodged a milk truck and hit a car driven by Carolyn Boles Bond in a Speedway parking lot. A second crash on East Sam Rayburn involved Wesley Ray Goodwin and Johnnie F. Charles with about $1,000 in damage.

15 Killed in Texas Traffic Over Weekend

United Press International tally shows 23 violent deaths in Texas from Friday 6 p.m. to Sunday midnight. Fifteen fatalities were traffic related, with four homicides, one fire death, one drowning, and one due to miscellaneous causes.

Travel Tax Sought to Cut Deficit With Graduated Rates

Treasury Secretary Fowler asked Congress to approve an overseas travel tax for Americans spending more than seven dollars daily abroad. A 15 percent rate applies from seven to fifteen dollars, and 30 percent above fifteen. Exempt first seven dollars, apply during 1968 and 1969 travel seasons, expiring October 1, 1969. Other measures include lowering duty free exemption and adjusting mailed and gifts provisions.

Ector Youth Hit by Car at Denison Drive In

Winkle 19 the son of A L Winkle of Ector suffered possible back injuries and facial cuts when struck by a car at a Denison drive-in theater Saturday night. He was taken to Madonna hospital and was unconscious for a time. The driver told officers he did not know he had hit anyone until told.

Protest at Soesterberg Air Base in the Netherlands

A small protest occurred Sunday outside Soesterberg Air Base in Holland with young men and women waving Viet Cong flags and anti American placards. Official reports state there were no incidents or arrests.
