Census school for personnel opens in Sherman
A training session began Tuesday in Sherman for office personnel and enumerators for the 1940 census. Will Leslie, supervisor for Texas district four, announced Richard Porter Jr as assistant, Mrs Norah Richardson as secretary, and Miss Margaret Kelly as clerk. Enumerators for Collin, Rockwall, Hunt, Rains, Greyson counties were named. The business and manufacturing census starts January 2 1940. The obituary of Mrs Mays, mother of State Representative Abe Mays, was reported from Atlanta Texas.

Washington December 37 Secretary of State Cordell Hull said he would welcome a congressional inquiry into the reciprocal trade treaties program if not run solely by lawmakers who backed the Hawley Smoot tariff act. He reacted to Sen. Van denberg's forecast that the Senate Finance Committee would probe the program before renewal next year. Hull urged the inquiry be for information, not punishment, and noted support from allies of the program.

I Leslie Is Injured In Auto Accident Tuesday. Charles J. Leslie of Bailey sustained severe facial injuries, broken ribs, and multiple cuts after losing control of his car while attempting to dodge a German police dog on Highway 74. His vehicle rolled into Boils d Arc Creek south of Bonham around 6 p.m. Tuesday. Trapped in the wreck, he freed himself about an hour later with no witness to the crash.
