Spacelab Finalists Named For Shuttle Lab Mission
Washington UPI six Americans including a woman and four Europeans were named as finalists for two Scientist seats aboard Spacelab the first space lab to fly in the space shuttle. One American and one European will win the seven day December 1980 mission. The European slate includes Franco Malerba Ulf Merbold Claude Nicollier and Wubbo Ockels. American candidates include Ann Whitaker Craig Fischer Michael Lampton Robert Menzies Byron Lichtenberg and Richard Terrile. The first Spacelab will ride the 11th space shuttle flight and operate inside the 60 foot bay with instruments on an accompanying platform.
