A Thursday fire believed to have started from a water heater damaged the Sammy Patterson residence on North Maple Street. Two rooms suffered heavy fire damage while all rooms had smoke damage. Firefighters extended efforts to the Dereen Peeler home on West 10th Street where a wooden fence ignited from a pile of burning leaves.
Ronald E Wood, 29, was reprimanded and fined 225 dollars after being convicted of mistreating Air Force recruits at Lackland Air Force Base. Three other charges were dismissed. he faced potential discharge and forfeiture of pay and allowances and two years at hard labor.

Two Honey Grove residents, aged 24 and 18, held in city jail as burglary suspects in a break in at the futures drive-in. Officers Harvey Trapp Lonnie Henega and Sam Patton arrested them around 3 am Friday after Viapp spotted a parked car on East 10th Street. Five Texas theater workers from Waco and Killeen seek a federal ruling on the state obscenity statute. They ask a three-judge federal panel be convened in Waco to decide if the antipornography laws violate the U S Constitution. The suit argues they did not display obscene material under Supreme Court definitions.
The L A Weather Bureau predicts mostly cloudy cool weather with a chance of intermittent rain through Saturday in Bonham. Temperatures will be cooler Saturday with a low in the 40s and a high near the upper 50s. Light rain fell Thursday afternoon and Friday morning with occasional drizzle noted.

Viet Cong attacked a U.S. Navy patrol boat convoy and shelled a government outpost as South Vietnamese and American forces push to assume duties west and south of Saigon. In the day’s fiercest clash government troops killed 17 Viet Cong 103 miles west of Saigon. three South Vietnamese were killed and 32 wounded with four American advisers hurt.
The Viet Cong announced a three day cease fire at Christmas and New Year to show concern for compatriots and the American people. The plan followed President Thieu's 24 hour truces for humanitarian reasons and was broadcast from Saigon via clandestine radio. The Viet Cong cited humanitarian policies and condemned Saigon and Washington for stalling at the Paris peace talks.
County officers investigated a break in at Mrs Betty Perkins residence two miles east of Dodd City on U S 82. Deputies Collingsworth and Madison and Constable Fred Clark reported a shotgun rifle ammunition and several girls dresses stolen. A pocket pistol was taken from a wall and placed under a bed cover. Entry was gained through the back door.
Soviet bloc leaders say West Germany must recognize East Germany and accept the Oder Neisse border as final. They praise Brandt’s moves on a nuclear treaty but warn against revanchism. A politburo member’s five year first visit at a West German envoy event signals thaw.
