McKinney Low Bid On Edhube Farm Road Project

R W McKinney of Nacogdoches submitted the low bid for 2.8 miles of grading drainage and paving on FM 1629 from SH 78 south of Bonham to SH 121. Bid was 73509 dollars and bids were opened by the State Highway Commission in Austin. Edhube road construction awaits start once contract awarded. right of way cleared and work ready.

Former Bonham Police Chief Dies at 67

Hugh Chest Elliott, 67, longtime Bonham peace officer and former chief, died Wednesday night at his home. Funeral set for Friday 2:30 p.m. at Wise Funeral Home chapel with Henry Gilbert officiating. interment in Arledge Ridge cemetery. Survivors include wife Stella, daughter Mrs J A Campbell, five sisters and a half sister. He had been in poor health after a traffic accident and leave of absence from the force.

Merchant attar of the Bonham Daily Favorite reports 81 new customers added to routes in the first week of a three week subscription drive. Route 8 carrier Jimmy Stevenson corral led with 25 new customers while Route 4's Dean Staten added 12. The contest runs until August 31 with weekly prizes and trips for top carriers. Greg Forgy's substitute logged seven new start during vacation.
