Bonham marks a record industrial year with a new plant joining the roster and payrolls rising 20 to 30 percent across major firms. Bontex adds 150 jobs in women sportswear while existing companies like General Cable and Red River Textiles expand output and earnings.
The Bonham Daily Favorite dedicates its annual Industrial Appreciation edition to Bonham’s industrial families. It features 16 pages of stories and pictures showing the plants’ impact on regional economic strength and payrolls. The issue marks a year-round appreciation and celebrates a strong era of industry in Bonham.
The Sam Rayburn High School senior class in Ivanhoe plans an ice cream supper from 3 to 8 30 pm with cake and cold drinks to raise funds for the class trip and activities. Bonham residents Col and Mrs H W Stevens run Stevens Cafeteria in the Fan Gate Shopping Center at 1427 Sunset Boulevard in Waco and offer hickory smoked barbecue meals. Ava Stevens Butler of Bonham is their daughter.
Dick Caldwell president of the Leonard Athletic Club announces another big domino tournament in Leonard at the high school gym Friday. Competition begins around 7 30 p m with red and gold trophies for winners. Proceeds fund a whirlpool for the high school athletic department.
Boun ham Lions Club members are reminded of a Thursday noon trip to Randolph. Club president Tom Francis says the group will meet at 11:30 a.m. at the Bluebonnet hotel to travel for the noon meal.

Mrs Barbara Skidmore McCoy, 19, suffered cuts and bruises when her pickup left Highway 78 four and a half miles north of Bunham, struck a concrete culvert and overturned. State Patrolman Dwayne Cox investigated.
The Mississippi River breached three dikes along the Quad Cities riverfront causing extensive flooding. Hundreds of workers fought the crest of the flood, expected to peak with three days of high water. The overflows endangered boats at Quad City Marine Co and a sandbag wall rose near the armory in Rock Island.
Bonham women collected 818 during the doorbell ring phase of the 1965 Cancer Crusade. Chairmen said totals would rise as unresolved contacts and late reports come in. An omission occurred listing Mrs W A Snider and Camp Fire Girls among volunteers. Washington PTA members aided Mrs Ned Raislback include Noble Smith Iva Spoons Rosie Bennett Gretchen McNealy Jimmie K Smith and Loraine Christian.
In western Hungary, soldiers and civilians joined large scale repair work after floods damaged more than 100 houses and affected about 55 villages. By Tuesday the waters had receded.
Ally Gen. Wagroner Carr warned Texas lawmakers that a federal court could take over redistricting if the legislature misses August deadlines for congressional and legislative maps. He noted Aug 2 and Aug 20 targets. Sen Bill Patman planned another attempt to pass his Hoover commission bill.
The Defense Department said a U S Air Force RB47 reconnaissance bomber was fired on by North Korean MiG fighters about 30 miles off the Korean coast over the Sea of Japan. There were no injuries and the plane landed safely at Yokota Air Base.
Forecast calls for clear skies and rising temperatures in Bonham and surrounding North Central Texas area Thursday. The low is expected around 47 degrees with a high near 74, after a chilly start in the 40s. Similar mild trend noted across Dalhart Brownsville and McAllen with 31 to 67 readings. The five day outlook shows near normal temperatures with a small chance of weekend rain.
Fannin county commissioners announce the court will serve as a board of equalization on May 17 19. Notice will be sent to property owners by the county Clerk's office to appear before the board at specified hours on each of the three days.
Soviet foreign minister Gromyko informed France that Russia agrees to convene an international conference on Cambodia. French Information Minister Peyrefitte said the move follows talks with Maurice Couy de Murville. Sihanouk supported a neutralization conference earlier, and the United States also endorsed a Cambodian parley.

Judges seek district champions across divisions I and II with multiple communities in Fannin County under scrutiny for state finals.
The historical plate for the Rehobeth cemetery, paired with last year’s medallion, will be presented at the reunion Sunday.
