GREENVILLE James Bridges Nelson 53 former minister and longtime superintendent of the Boles Orphans Home at Quinland was fatally injured when a passenger train collided with his car at a Greenville crossing. He died Friday afternoon after funeral services at the orphanage Saturday and a Dallas service at 4 p.m. He had served churches in Dallas Western Heights Grandview Waxahachie Irving Altus and Readyville Tennessee where he was born. He had traveled with orphanage children to a Greenville Rotary Club meeting at noon.

Diversion Gasoline Tax Criticised By Judge Brady Gentry
Judge Brady Gentry chairman of the state highway commission criticized the diversion of one cent of the four cent gasoline tax at the Leonard Chamber of Commerce banquet. He warned the act would be a tragedy for Texas if reenacted and urged protecting highway funds. Gentry noted Texas has 26,000 miles of designated highways, with 11,500 miles modern and 14,500 in need of construction, requiring about 400 million dollars to upgrade. He said only 25 million dollars is available annually for building and highlighted only 48 percent of federal gasoline taxes return to Texas while two cents of state tax largely supports schools and highway patrol. He called the one cent diversion a mistake and argued it limits permanent road work.
