The Pentagon will announce a partial inactivation at two Texas Air Force bases under the North American Air Defense Modernization Program. In Los Angeles the jury that convicted Sirhan Sirhan of first degree murder in the Robert F. Kennedy assassination could not reach a unanimous verdict on whether he should face the gas chamber or life imprisonment. After two days and nine hours of deliberations, some jurors pressed for death while others urged mercy due to alleged mental illness. A hung verdict could lead to a new trial with weeks of testimony. Judge Herbert Y. Walker may set the penalty if both sides agree.
Investigating officers estimate damage at 150 dollars after a Tuesday afternoon collision at North Center and Fifth Streets. No injuries reported. Drivers identified as Mrs. Josephine Jeffreys of Bokchito Oklahoma and Eldon Frair of Bonham. Jeffreys reportedly rolled into Frair's left rear fender after both cars stopped for a traffic light.
