Judges Begin Fannin County Visit for District Champion Search

Lions Club safe driving contest slated for afternoon

The Lions Club hosts a safe driving contest this afternoon starting at 2 p.m. with trophies for winners. Co chairs Forrest Copeland and Norris Fisher expect many entries and participation from Mulberry in Division II while other communities compete in Division I. Postoffice Funds Slash Threatens New Building Mail

Washington reports that Tenants moving into new buildings in five major cities may lose mail service after Monday as the Post Office faces funding cuts. Postmaster General J Edward Day did not order delivery cuts to 11 buildings but ordered a hiring freeze and possible curtailment at the nation's 50 busiest centers. The department also weighs dropping all third class mail for the first week of each month starting July 1 as an alternative to Saturday delivery cuts.

Two Charged With Liquor Violations

Complaints alleging violations of state liquor laws were filed against two Bunham Negro men, Joe W. Pease and Ocie Anderson, on Friday afternoon. They were named as defendants in cases accusing transportation of liquor into dry territory.

Bonham Library Opens Art Show During National Library Week

Bonham residents attend a two day open house and art exhibit at the Bonham Public Library from 1 to 5 pm Sunday and Monday. Artists from Bonham and nearby towns display 84 local works plus student pieces and class projects. Organizers include Library Board member Mrs. W. T. Moody and community volunteers from Southwest Pump and local banks aiding setup and promotion.
