Washington UPI reports President orders a wide study of the Selective Service system with goal of ending conscription within ten years. The move aims to assess if military needs can be met on an all volunteer basis and was announced at an impromptu news conference.
President Johnson discussed alternatives to the present selective service system and a possible shift of funds to humanitarian aid. He noted a comprehensive study is needed after 18 years of the law and Plans a major foreign policy address in New York to cover Soviet relations Cuba China and Southeast Asia.
District judges from Denton will visit 11 of 19 district communities in Fannin County from Monday to Wednesday to evaluate rural progress. The schedule lists stops at Ravenna Mulberry Randolph Lannius Bartley Woods Gober Nunnelee Allen's Point Allen's Chapel Seife and Telephone with lunches and local officials hosting.

A two car collision on U S 83 near Ector injures Mrs Thompson, with drivers Alfred Milner and W B Thompson identified by Patrolman Jake Jackson. Both vehicles were traveling east on U S 82 when Thompson slowed to turn into a driveway and Milner struck Thompson from behind.
Texas Governor John Connally and his wife will recount their Kennedy assassination experience to the Warren Commission next Tuesday. They were among Texas witnesses announced by the commission after riding with the late president when he was shot. Tuesday morning Dr. Robert Shaw and Dr. Charlies Gregory from Parkland Hospital will provide testimony on the president's condition.
President Johnson said the nine days of talks between railroads and unions have been productive and he expects a settlement through collective bargaining. He warned a new strike crisis could loom if current negotiations fail and praised both sides for negotiating in a free enterprise style as five federal mediators oversee the process.
