Fannin County Hospital Auxiliary will give away an Easter Bunny Cake at 3 p.m. Friday. Attend at the Auxiliary office, leave your name and phone, and pay 25 cents for a chance to win. The item supports hospital programs and activities.
Fannin County Commissioners debated appointing a salary grievance committee under Texas statutes with the court chairing but no vote, and awaited state council approval for federal funding. They also approved an investigator for the county attorney and accepted bids on a sheriff’s department car.
The Texas Railroad Commission voted to allow LoVaca Gathering Co and Coastal States Gas Producing Co customers to choose whether to revert to contract rates set in 1973, a move some fear could endanger gas supplies. One commissioner opposed, likening it to giving a child a gun.
The Bonham Daily Favorite will begin daily door to door delivery in Savoy Virginia with Wyles delivering Tuesday through Friday and Sunday morning. Residents may call 583-2124 to arrange home delivery.
The U S government reintroduces the $2 bill on Thomas Jefferson's birthday, aiming to boost acceptance during the Bicentennial year. It costs less to print than $1 bills and features Jefferson on the front with a new reverse showing the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
Bonham city commission approved a lower gas rate ordinance on first reading and scheduled a 5 29 p m special meeting with Lone Star Gas Co to negotiate a compromise rate before a Railroad Commission ruling. The plan targets a tiered rate around 3.73 2 70 and 1 72 per 1 000 cu ft with others watching the La Vaca decision.
Ray Veldman of 1120 Cedar Bonham a Bonham High School pupil has been chosen to attend the four day Texas Nuclear Science Symposium at the University of Texas Austin June 14 1976 accompanying scientist David Hembree and sponsored by Texas Power Light Company and the Texas Atomic Energy Research Foundation The event gathers about 500 top science students and teachers from across the state for lectures and laboratory tours including fusion research and university labs plus a tour of facilities used for nuclear science experiments.
The House Judiciary Committee approved a gun control bill by 26 to 6, banning manufacture and import of cheap concealable handguns known as Saturday night specials. The substitute measure allows dealers to sell stock or transfers while prohibiting new production or imports.
Donna Cranfill, senior in Bondi, daughter of Mr and Mrs Wayne Cranfill, will represent Fannin County at the State 4-H Roundup in College Station after winning the District 4-H contest at TWU Denton. Other senior and junior winners from Fannin County earned awards in 29 demonstration contests as about 900 participants competed. Awards were presented Saturday night in TWU's Music and Speech Auditorium with Dr. Mary Evelyn Huey welcoming attendees.
D. E. White manager of the Bonham plant of the General Telephone Co. told the Bonham city commission that starting May 25 customers dial 1 plus the number for station to station calls and 0 plus for operator assisted calls. New equipment will record the caller's number for long distance and private line customers will be asked for their number only for Ll plus calls. Additional lines and channels are being installed to handle the increased traffic.
Scattered showers dampened the Bonham area Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning with rainfall just over a quarter inch. Tuesday and Wednesday forecast call for mild temperatures with highs in the lower 80s and mornings in the upper 60s. Western county largely missed the showers while the northern part saw lighter precipitation.
