Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey arrived in Washington after Europe trip as President Johnson greeted him with a hero's welcome. Johnson credited Humphrey with helping Europeans understand American Vietnam policy.
A young Lubbock native Jeff Washerlesky recalls soaking rains in Bonham while Fred Johnson praises Humphrey as America's voice during a Europe tour. Johnson and Humphrey discuss unity, open doors, and Vietnam amid demonstrations, as Humphrey plans a South American trip and Johnson steers talks with leaders.
The United Press International report details a Teamsters lockout affecting thousands of Texas drivers and dozens of trucking firms. While some drivers, including Local 745 in Dallas, were urged to work, routes in Houston Amarillo San Antonio and Corpus Christi faced interruptions with freight yards piled high and questions over food and drug deliveries.
