Port Worth officials joined Fort Worth journalists at the Gridiron Club banquet in Port Worth. A playful program featured songs and skits with local humor, including a spoof on welfare and a twist on Mule Train renamed Gravy Team.
Baylor University President W. R. White will tell the Board of Trustees at the annual meeting that enrollment has reached an all time high. He cites 6 008 students in one or more quarters of the current term, exceeding last year’s 5 799. Excluded are students in Dallas Dental and Nursing Schools and Houston Medical School.
About 200 attended the Kernel Klub annual banquet at East Texas State College on Wednesday March 29. Roy Lee Winkies of Bailey, a graduate and former member, attended. Senator G C Morris of Greenville spoke at the event, the club's third annual banquet.
Dallas reports February department store sales seven percent higher than a year ago, the third straight monthly gain in the 11th District. San Antonio led cities with a one percent rise, Houston up two percent. construction contracts up fourteen percent, while agricultural conditions range from very good to very unfavorable across the district.
Former Senator Charles Jones of Bonham praises his taste in secretaries as Miss Jackie M Farris wins Sweatheart of the University of Texas after a recent election. Farris, who helped in the called legislative session, has visited the Jones home and plans to spend Easter with Mr and Mrs Claude Jones in Bonham.
Bonham Round-Up Club officials announce a meeting tonight at the Chamber of Commerce offices to discuss spring activities and club plans.
Fannin county school supervisors taught two classes at East Texas State Teachers College in Commerce on Saturday. Walter Nash led as chief instructor with Mrs. Guyan Stevens and Mrs. Kate Estes assisting in classes led by Dr. Brent Tarter. Nash spoke at length on the Gilmer-Aikin supervision laws and county implementation, plus topics on supervisor roles, knowledge, and the ties among supervisor, teacher, community, and administrators.
Members of Scouts Troop 52 from BSA sponsored by First Presbyterian Church explored the Goss Farm in northeast Fannin County on a Saturday trip. All 15 boys found arrow heads or fragments and the group cooked supper before returning home around 8:30 PM led by Scoutmaster Lynwood Massey and Rev. C. G. Long.
Dodd City teams went even in Friday afternoon softball action. The Dodd City girls blanked Ivanhoe 14 0, while the Ivanhoe boys edged the Dodd City boys 3 2. In grade school play, Dodd City boys beat Edhube 16 4 and Edhube girls won 4 3.
A Morgan station airs a Tuesday schedule of mountain music coffee time and band features. The program highlights include Bob Wills Show keyboard capers and homemaker harmonies with a focus on community musicians and station lineup.
Four Nunnelee 4-H club youths Robbie Jones James Austin Wesley Blanton and Kenneth Sartin will represent Fannin county in the area stock judging contest in Arlington on April 15 announced County Agent Nick Owen. The team was chosen in Saturday’s elimination contest here with dairy and rifle team selections planned later in the week.
Rites for Mrs. Hama J Hayes were held Sunday afternoon at Wise Funeral Home Chapel with Rev Jess Fender officiating. Burial followed at Brown Cemetery. grandsons served as pallbearers. Surviving family includes three sons, two daughters, three sisters, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. A local ad lists console radio and record player deals and Philco appliances.

Wesley Jasper Carpenter 68 owner of the Home of Flowers and longtime Sherman florist died Friday night in a Sherman hospital. Funeral services were held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church with Rev. J. A. Ellis conducting. Burial followed at Dodd City Cemetery. He was born in Athens Alabama on August 24, 1881 and came to Sherman in 1917. He purchased the Home of Flowers in 1927 and was a member of the First Baptist Church, Texas State Florist Association, and the Sherman Rotary Club. Survivors include his wife Ida, son Walter H. Carpenter, daughter Mrs. Stanley Heston, brother Fred Carpenter, three sisters, and one grandson Michael Carpenter.
Daughters Mrs Williams and Mrs Irene Whitesides of McDonald New Mexico and Mrs Louise Taylor of Randolph, one son Billy Jo Milner, Wolfe City Rt. 2.
