John C Baumgartner ex officer and recorder of Wells county died March 16 1894 after long illness. He served in business and public life since 1887 and was a devoted church member and Knight of Honor. He leaves wife Mary A Ashbaucher and two boys Charley and Arrie with a large community and lodge grieving his loss. Funeral at First Reformed church was led by Rev Souder with Knights of Honor in full force.

The Gehrett family mourns son Hugh who would have turned eleven on May 7. He died after measles attacked his throat and lungs despite all efforts. Funeral at East Market Street residence conducted by Rev. W. W. Hicks, burial at Stahl cemetery. District friends remember him as bright and amiable, a favorite to teachers and classmates. The Howard clock bid dominates county officials with a $1500 estimate, similar to Bluffton’s, as Harley reports Bluffton clock cost of $1590 with huge dial and heavy weights. Commissioners may buy a timekeeper that is accurate and ornamental, not less than $1500. Hartford City Velegia n notes the clock bid and timing concerns. City election is May 1. residents must reside in precinct for 30 days by April 1 to vote.
