Postmasters refute a widely circulated claim that the government would furnish free rural mail boxes and prosecute tampering the same as city mail theft. The department notes the rural delivery program is still experimental and costly with no near plan to provide free boxes.
The ad touts Bucklen’s Arnica Salve as a famous world class remedy for aches cuts burns bruises inflammation piles ulcers felons and skin eruptions. It claims millions of boxes sold yearly and lists 25 cents price at C CO Deam’s drug store.
The piece argues that if a key singer and her ally stop their tune, Indiana would lose 10 million to 14 million dollars yearly, harming whale communities and many small bank accounts. It frames the mother hen as a metaphor for the brood pilot in a garden plot.
Two Rock Creek township residents married Thursday evening Charles Raber and Miss Odessie Hichhorn exchanged vows at the bride’s mother Mas Ella Eichhorn home in Uniondale. Rev Mohler officiated and a bountiful meal followed as guests cheered the couple who will live on the John Raber farm. The Banner extends best wishes for their future.
Representative Carmichael introduced a bill in the Indiana House to tax pumps at gas stations, yielding about 75 to 100 dollars daily and requiring licenses from the secretary of state for each pump. The measure aims to curb out-of-state pumping and eliminates the need for inspectors.

Lieutenant Colonel Knox reports on the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers in his annual inspection. As of June 30, 1902 the homes housed 1,404 ex soldiers with 7,801 absent. net gain 764. Spanish War veterans numbered 3,965, deaths 1,081, daily sick 5,110, death rate 49.61 per thousand, average age 67.38.

Sadie Starr and a young man named Brewer were arrested by Patrolman Linville at Gail Hathaway’s home on Tenth and Branson streets and taken to police headquarters. Brewer was later exonerated. a warrant remains for Ira Hough, alleged illicit partner. Starr pleaded guilty, fined $1 and costs totaling $11.40 and one day in jail. Starr came from Bluffton. she faced history of illness and residence in pest house. The mayor offered Starr a home and urged encouragement rather than judgment.
W. W. Baker of Plainview Nebraska says his wife suffered fifteen years and multiple doctors failed before Foley's Honey and Tar saved her life. At about eleven p m Thursday John Batchler caught a boy named Shaw in his corn field. The youth claimed he was sent to fetch fodder by a man who later denied sending him. The boy admitted the ruse when confronted, suggesting an attempted theft of fodder.
A warning about croup as a deadly night threat is followed by a claim that Foley's Honey and Tar provides instant relief. Mrs. P. L. Cordier of Mannington Kentucky cites her three year old daughter's saving response to the medicine after a doctor believed she could not live. Sold by Davenport & Khile.
Mary A. Adkin died Thursday at 6 am at her Uniondale area home. She was nearly eighty and had been helpless for two years after a stroke. She was mother of Rev. Robert Adkin, former Horeb charge pastor. Funeral was Friday at 2 pm at St. John's Lutheran Church, preached by Rev. Mohler.
The Marion News-Tribune notes Wells County January oil production fell to about one third of December. 32 new wells yielded 477 barrels, a loss of 26 completions and 266 barrels. Sixteen rigs and 46 wells adds up to a year start gain of ten over earlier totals. A local high output well and field activity are described with regional comparisons and drilling outlook.
Henry Ward Beecher twice officiated the marriage of Collins P. Huntington, first in secret during his wife’s recent death and then in public upon his return from Europe. He humorously quipped to Huntington, I do wish you were a Mormon, after receiving a second fee of fifteen hundred dollars.
By decree from Wells County Circuit Court clerk the real estate of Pleasant Valley church trustees in Lancaster township is to be sold at public auction in Brixton Wells County Indiana. The sale on February 1 1903 will cover one half acre including the church house to satisfy a decree of four hundred twenty three dollars and costs with interest, any surplus to be disposed of as required by law.
