Elkhorn Extension Begun By Rail Contract Team
An officer of the Caroine Clinch field and Offa Railway at Johnson City Tennessee reports in the Manufacturera Record that on May 29 the Finehart and Denia company of Washington District contractors were authorized to begin the first severing of the Elkhorn extension. The seven segments start at Kier on the Clinch Valley division of the Norfolk and Western railway and run to the summit of Bandy Ridge. The Elkhorn extension will run from Dante Virginia to Elkhorn Clay Kentucky, about 40 miles, with initial work authorized by the company.

The torpedo motor built for the Northern Pacific Railway in Omaha reached speeds of sixty miles per hour on a St. Paul to White Bear run and back, with engineers predicting seventy five mph. The gasoline powered steel car seats 75, includes an observation room, smoker, baggage, and is fireproof with direct air control. It will run on branch lines where locomotive trains are unprofitable, at a cost per mile and with travel at low rates for passenger traffic.
