Norfolk reports fire early today destroyed Odd Fellows hall on the fifth floor causing losses possibly over 150000. Origin believed cigar stump. flames confined to one building. Some narrow escapes and minor injuries but no deaths.
Merchants in Bluefield report the current Christmas trade the largest in city history with estimates from twenty five to sixty percent above prior years. Broad demand from coalfields and nearby counties drives crowded shops after 7 pm openings, with widespread sales across ten cent stores to clothing emporiums and no notable merchant failures.
Chicago, Dec. 29. Flames still burn at Nelson Morris & Company plant as exhausted firemen struggle to gain control. Twenty eight bodies recovered with ten to twelve missing. Fire reignited at 8 pm after sixteen hours of effort. Official list shows twenty one dead with five missing. Police reserves aided by outlying firefighters. Insurance says collapse due to cold air from heat rather than a tank explosion.

An Italian man named Carlow was fined $1 in police court by Judge Aker for violating pistol laws. A foreigner aboard attempted to report Christain ex bilarent aboard and a dropped artillery incident on Princeton Avenue prompted Officer Taylor to respond and arrest the suspect. The case notes limited damage and no injuries, with further details provided by MF Johnson and an official report.
New York December 23 Merman Corey a cornice maker was instantly killed today and another man who Corey dragged with him was seriously injured in a fall from the building's sixth floor. Corey's body was broken and the other man landed on him, saving his own life.
Went Point December report says senior cadets are barred from returning home for Christmas. An order cites ongoing silence by the class as the reason, affecting eighty five seniors who hoped to spend holidays with family before June graduation. The restriction stands as their final year at the academy.
