Newport News Virginia January 21 reports say Chesapeake & Ohio Railway Company plans a large steel plant here after testing Cuban and Virginia iron ores. Officials favor ore blends for top steel. tests outcome not discussed. Withy & Co to run Cuba to port freight line. Virginia ore via Chesapeake & Ohio. Edmin Hawley, new Chesapeake & Ohio owner, originated the idea.

Fire Destroys Handsome Residence at Wytheville

The handsome residence of Mr. C. M. Hicks on Main Street Wytheville Va burned after a fire started in an upper room, likely from an electrical live wire. Adjacent buildings were saved despite the intensity. the Lutheran church suffered slight heat damage. Insurance on house and furniture totaled $6,000. some furniture was saved.
